Full Mouth Rehabilitation: A Complete Plan for Worn, Damaged or Missing Teeth

Sometimes the problem is not one tooth but the whole mouth: teeth worn flat, several missing, cracked fillings everywhere and a bite that no longer feels right. Fixing them one at a time can lead to patchwork results. Full mouth rehabilitation treats the mouth as a single system and restores it in a planned sequence.

It is a comprehensive, individually designed treatment plan that rebuilds or restores all or most of the teeth to improve health, comfort, function and appearance. It is not one procedure but a coordinated combination that may include:

• Treatment of gum disease and decay
• Root canal treatment
• Crowns, bridges, veneers or inlays and onlays
• Dental implants
• Orthodontic tooth movement
• Bite (occlusal) correction
• Dentures or implant-supported dentures where needed

 Orthodontic tooth movement

Who May Need It?

  • Severe tooth wear from grinding (bruxism) or acid erosion, for example from reflux
  • Multiple broken, cracked or heavily restored teeth
  • Several missing teeth affecting chewing
  • A collapsed or uneven bite causing jaw discomfort
  • Long-term neglect leading to decay across many teeth
  • Congenital or developmental conditions affecting tooth structure
  • Trauma or previous failed dental work

Why Plan the Whole Mouth Together?

Teeth, gums, jaw joints and muscles work as a system. If one area is rebuilt without considering the bite, new restorations can chip or fail early. A full plan lets the dentist decide the ideal bite height and tooth position first, and then build everything to fit it.

The Treatment Journey

  • Comprehensive evaluation:clinical exam, X-rays and often a 3D scan, photographs, gum assessment, bite and jaw-joint evaluation.
  • Diagnosis of causes: for example, identifying grinding, reflux or gum disease so the cause is controlled, not just the damage.
  • Treatment plan and preview: a diagnostic model or digital design, sometimes with a trial mock-up so you can see and test the proposed result.
  • Stabilisation phase: control of infection, decay and gum disease, and extraction of unsavable teeth.
  • Foundation work: root canals, implants, grafting and any orthodontics.
  • Provisional restorations: temporary teeth to test the new bite and appearance before the final work.
  • Final restorations: crowns, bridges, veneers or other prosthetics made to match the approved plan.
  • Maintenance: night guard, hygiene routine and regular reviews.
